Steps for your visa application:
- Get your letter of admission: Ensure you have received the official acceptance from the htk academy.
- Apply for your visa: Gather all required documents as per the checklist below.
- Prepare your visa documents: Ensure all necessary paperwork is complete and up to date.
- Open a blocked account: Maintain a minimum balance of 11,000 € in your blocked account.
- Attend the visa interview: Prepare thoroughly and bring all required documents to your visa interview.
- Wait for visa approval: Visa processing can take several weeks. Keep track of your application status.
- Start studies online (if delayed): If your visa is not approved in time, you may begin your studies online.
- Fly to Germany: Once your visa is granted, you can travel to Germany and commence your studies on campus.

Visa requirements
The htk academy, established in 1987 in Hamburg, is a private vocational academy officially recognised by the Hamburg Cultural Authority as a supplementary school.
Germany’s education system is managed by individual federal states, and Hamburg supports private education by offering a special visa option for private academies like htk academy.
Why htk academy qualifies for an educational visa?
- State Recognition: The htk academy in Hamburg is state-recognised (Bestandsschutz).
- Approved Programmes: The Hamburg Authority and Hamburg Welcome Centre have approved all programmes at htk academy.
- English-language instruction: All courses at htk academy are taught in English, and this is accepted by the authorities.
Since many private institutions in Hamburg offer artistic or technical training without state regulation, the Ministry of the Interior and Sport provides an alternative residence permit based on an exception under Section 7 (1) sentence 3 AufenthG.
